Springsteen Leads "Rolling Stone's" 2012 Albums List; Dylan Ranks Fourth
Bruce Springsteen's Grammy-nominated "Wrecking Ball" has the top spot on "Rolling Stone's" list of the "50 Best Albums of 2012." The magazine praises the project as "rock's most pointed response to the Great Recession," saying it's "a song suite explicitly for the 99 percent." Editors also say it's "Springsteen's most walloping and adventurous release in decades," and honor Bruce for the way he and producer Ron Aniello "merge the sweep, heft and rumble of the classic E Street sound with modern flourishes." Bob Dylan's "Tempest" is also in the top five, ranking fourth behind Frank Ocean's "Channel Orange" and Jack White's "Blunderbuss." "Rolling Stone" says "Tempest" is "teeming with wit and history, marinated in a couple centuries of folk and pop music, from Celtic waltzes to doo-wop balladry." Fiona Apple's album with the 23-word title "The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than The Driver Of The Screw And Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do" rounds out the top five.
