Billy Gibbons To Perform With His Pre-ZZ Top Band
(Undated) -- ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons is revisiting his past. Gibson.com says the guitarist is getting back together with The Moving Sidewalks, his group before ZZ Top, for a special one-off reunion concert at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in New York on March 30th. The upcoming gig is in support of a new two-disc set "Moving Sidewalks: The Complete Collection," which is available now via MusicDirect.com.
Gibbons formed The Moving Sidewalks in the mid '60s with bassist Don Summers, keyboardist Tom Moore, and drummer Dan Mitchell. They began as an R&B group called The Coachmen, but eventually changed their name and musical direction, delving into psychedelia and other experimental sounds. In their short history The Moving Sidewalks released several singles and one album, "Flash," in 1968. The band also opened shows for such stars as Jimi Hendrix and The Doors. The group split up in 1969 when Summers and Moore were drafted.
