Jimmy O'Neill Remembered For "Shindig!," "Flintstones"

"Shindig!" host Jimmy O'Neill is dead. The TV and radio personality died Friday of complications from diabetes and heart disease. He was 73. O'Neill is also remembered for an animated TV appearance. He provided the voice for Jimmy O'Neillstone on "The Flintstones." In the 1965 episode, Jimmy wants to book Fred Flintstone for an appearance at his club, the Shinrock-A-Go-Go, after Fred -- with some help from Barney Rubble -- creates a new "dance."

Fred's "dance" involved him hopping around while clutching one foot and shouting the phrase, "Yabba dabba die! Yi! Yi! Yi!," which was what he did after Barney dropped a bowling ball on his foot. At the time of the incident, Fred and Barney were at the TV studio trying to get tickets to O'Neillstone's show, "Shinrock!" The episode also featured an animated appearance from The Beau Brummels, as The Beau Brummelstones, who performed their hit "Laugh, Laugh."

"Shindig!" launched on ABC in September 1964, and during its 15-month run featured many of the top rock and soul artists of the era. The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Jerry Lee Lewis, Sam Cooke, Tina Turner and Darlene Love are among the stars who appeared on the show.
