Eagles Expected To Attend Documentary Premiere At Sundance Saturday

The Eagles' documentary will have its premiere this weekend. Billboard.com says band members Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmit are expected to be on hand for the special screening of "History of the Eagles, Part One" at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah on Saturday. The movie chronicles the first part of the group's story, from their formation in 1971 and rise to fame to their breakup in 1980. Director Alison Ellwood says viewers will learn more in particular about Henley and Frey, and "what sparked the desire to become the band." Producer Alex Gibney adds that the movie shows "the character of the band," and the audience will see "how different" the group members are from one another, and "how they complement each other." In the film, the Eagles story unfolds through a mixture of archival footage, home movies, photographs, and a host of interviews. Ellwood says group members were "very forthcoming and quite honest" in recalling their past -- even about "the hard times they had together."

There is also a "History of the Eagles, Part Two," which has been completed. The second film covers the band members' solo careers and their 1994 reunion. The group plans to eventually release the films together as a two-disc DVD set, but a date hasn't been announced yet.
