Brian Wilson Sheds Doubt On More From Classic Beach Boys
The Beach Boys reunion appears to be over, at least for the time being. Brian Wilson addressed the issue backstage at the Grammys, telling reporters he doubts that he, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston, and David Marks will be working together again in the foreseeable future. The band's classic lineup came back together last year, launching their 50th anniversary celebration at the 2012 Grammy Awards then embarking on an extensive, six-month tour that wrapped up in late September. They also released a new album last June.
But as the trek was winding down Love announced more dates for his own incarnation of the band, which doesn't include Wilson, Jardine, or Marks. At the time Love, who owns the rights to the Beach Boys name, claimed the reunion wasn't intended to be an open-ended run but something special. He also told "The Los Angeles Times" he wasn't ruling out more shows with the classic lineup after giving it "a rest for a year." But Brian responded to the "Times," saying Mike's announced plans took him by surprise and left him feeling like he'd been "fired" from the group.
