Beatles Items Generating Big Returns At Auctions

Beatles Items Generating Big Returns At Auctions

Beatles memorabilia is still a big draw at auctions. An autographed copy of a UK mono edition of "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" has generated bids significantly higher than expected -- just in pre-bids. The record will be part of Heritage Auction's upcoming Entertainment & Music Memorabilia Signature Auction, which will take place in Dallas this coming Saturday. Bidding is already into the six-figures, at 110-thousand-500 dollars. Auctioneers knew the disc would be a big seller. In announcing the auction the signed "Sgt. Pepper" was called the "top highlight" of the sale, and was anticipated to fetch "well in excess of 30-thousand-dollars." Beatles expert Perry Cox describes the album as one of the top Beatles collectibles "of all time."

Meanwhile, a collection of photographs taken during The Beatles' 1965 concert at Shea Stadium have also sold for much more than expected. The BBC says the group of 61 pictures sold Friday through Omega Auctions for nearly 46-thousand-800-dollars. Pre-sale predictions put the sale price between 22-thousand-800 and 30-thousand-500-dollars. A man named Marc Weinstein took the pictures nearly 50 years ago. He used fake credentials to get backstage, and was just one of two photographers at the show.
