Paul McCartney Tops U.K. "Rich List"

Paul McCartney Tops U.K. "Rich List"

Sir Paul McCartney is back in a familiar place - at the top of a list of the U.K's richest musicians.  With a reported net worth of one-billion-dollars - or 620-million pounds - the "Sunday Times" says the 70-year-old Beatles legend is worth his weight in gold.  McCartney has topped all the charts for the country's wealthiest musicians since the "Sunday Times" began publishing its "Rich List" in 1989.  Back then, he was worth just 80-million pounds, or roughly 123-million U.S. dollars at today's conversion rate.  The "Times" says Sir Paul's holdings have been boosted by his new wife Nancy Shevell's stake in her father's New England Motor Freight trucking company.  Grammy winner Adele, meantime, tops the "Times'" 2013 Young Music Rich List of entertainers, ages 30 and under.  Adele's fortune is estimated at 30 million pounds, or 46-million U.S. dollars.  And the members of One Direction have become Britain's richest boy band with a combined wealth of 25-million pounds or 38-million-dollars.

Behind McCartney, the overall list also includes composer and producer Andrew Lloyd Webber at number two with 520 million pounds, or 954-million-dollars; Irish rockers U2 at number three with a converted estimate worth of 800-million-dollars; Elton John is fourth with 369-million-dollars; and Rolling Stone frontman Mick Jagger rounds out the top five with an estimated 307-million-dollar net worth.
