George Harrison Honored In Britain With New Memorial Garden

George Harrison Honored In Britain With New Memorial Garden

A former Beatle is receiving a new honor in the UK.  NME.com says the George Harrison Memorial Garden is now open at the Bhaktivedanta [[Bahk-TEH-vah-dahn-tah]] Manor in Hertfordshire, just north of London.  The property had belonged to the rock legend, who donated it to the International Society for Krishna Consciousness back in 1973.  Harrison's widow Olivia says she's pleased with the organization's floral tribute to her famous husband.  She adds that the garden is "a manifestation in the material world of which he would be very proud."

This isn't the first time Harrison has been recognized with a garden.  George was also honored with "Life To Life," a special memorial garden created for the 2008 Chelsea Flower Show in Britain.  Olivia teamed up with garden designer Yvonne Innes, the wife of musician Neil Innes, on that project -- a symbolic biography featuring various plants to represent Harrison's childhood, Beatlemania, and his post-Beatles spirituality.
